Massage or Pain Pills?
Pain Pills and Muscle Relaxers are not the best solution to relieving muscle aches and pains
If you ever went to a doctor because you are having muscle pain you probably got a prescription for pain killers or muscle relaxers. I have found most doctors choose to prescribe a pill rather than suggest a simple massage session. Pain Killers and Muscle Relaxers are really not good the body at all. Aside from the addictiveness of these kinds of drugs, it also has a negative effect on our liver and other organs in the body.
I have found that doctors really don’t know as much about muscle pain and discomfort as I would think a doctor should know. When it comes to those issues most doctors give you a pill. The pill disguises the pain until the body corrects it’s self. The problem with that is your body may correct the issue throwing other parts of the body off.
For example, a muscle can lose its blood supply rendering it unable to perform it’s assigned duties. You may not notice this happening because surrounding muscles will take up for its slack. So you go on for a while and maybe the blood supply is restored by the body or something you do inadvertently to restore it and you would never really know it occurred. This is one of the ways a “knot in your muscle” is formed. If the body can’t repair the unnourished muscle then over time the muscle or muscles supporting that unnourished muscle will start to get over worked and cause pain. The severity of the pain depends on the size of the muscle and length of time the muscle has been performing the extra task or tasks. When the body sends a signal to your brain that something hurts, the pain is the body’s way of immobilizing the area so it can begin the healing process. The pain pill will disguise the pain and let you move past the point of the body’s comfort which can prolong the pain and cause a chain reaction in the body. A pain in your leg can over time create pain in your neck or shoulders or any other combination of muscles.
A massage from an experienced Massage therapist will help that kind of situation and the body will feel relief immediately in most cases. Chronic muscle spasms or if you are feeling muscle pain more then once a month you would benefit from monthly massage sessions or more. Depending on your stress levels a person with high stress and constant muscle pain should be getting a massage once a week to twice a month.
The benefits of massage are not just muscular, it has an effect on the body’s mental health, overall circulation, lymph drainage, skeletal system as well as many others.
Next time your doctor prescribes a pill for muscle pain, weigh the pros and cons. A massage will be the 100% healthy solution for muscle pain, a pill will save you some pain but what other effects can it have over the long run….. the choice is yours.
