Skeptical about massage therapy?
Therapeutic massage has been a part of the human experience since the dawn of time. Human touch and interaction makes us feel accepted and loved. A hand on the shoulder of a friend, a hand shake, a hug are all forms of therapeutic touch. Innocent and reassuring these gestures are important to a positive life.
Massage therapy is an extension of acceptance and love from another human being. A therapeutic massage therapists place is to assess the body and bring it comfort. Each part of your body is connected as one, as well as the spirit and the mind, together they are you. All your experiences and all your time spent on this earth have brought you to the place you are in your life and body. Each with their own stresses to the mind, body and soul. What you do today determines where you will be tomorrow.
Most of us go through life taking care of everyone else’s needs, our spouses, children, parents and close friends even our jobs are important to our acceptance and existence, pleasing them in turn pleases us. Taking a moment for ourselves often makes us feel guilty. Going 100 miles an hour with our hair on fire is fine, so long as we are taking some time for ourselves. Exercise helps relieve some of the body stress, meditation can help ease the mind, and going to church can help revive the soul.
Massage can help you put them all together in a 60 or 90 minute session. When your session is over you will be in a blissful state. At first unable to think as your mind will be clear. Your body will feel as good as an 8 hour sleep. Your soul will be floating with you. Be careful this feeling is addicting! Bob hope had a massage everyday till his death. He lived to be 100. A healthy 100 years old.
If you have never had a massage before or have had one but did not have a good experience and never had one again. You are missing something that can change your outlook on life and help the future you live a healthier and pain free life. Once a month for 60 minutes commit to a one hour massage. Try it for 3 months and you will start to feel the difference. Each person is different as to their individual needs some of us need a little more, some a little less depending on your life experience and body make-up.
Massage is an interpretive art and getting the same massage from 2 different therapists is nearly impossible (unless rehearsed). Having a regular massage therapist is important, but also trying others once in a while can also have many benefits for a well rounded experience.
Your sessions should be enjoyable and in corrective areas a little painful at times. This is normal. Be aware of the difference between a good soothing pain and a bad hurtful pain. Let your therapist know, if they are not communicating with you during this time. In fact if you feel your therapist is hurting you or you are feeling uncomfortable at anytime, let them know right away. Depending on the depth of your massage session you may feel a little soreness the next day, (particularly if you are not getting regular massage) the soreness should feel like you worked-out out that muscle or set of muscles. Bruising may occur but is not a common side effect unless you bruise very easily and even then the area should not be sensitive to the touch.
